We are please to announce our return to the Scunthorpe Steelworks internal rail network.
The event will start at 10am from the railtour platform next to entrance E of Scunthorpe Steel works. Industrial Diesel Janus No 1 hauling 3 brakevans will start the tour.
There will be a running commentary throughout the day via a speaker system fitted to the 3 brakevans while we visit several areas of the vast site.
The final part of the visit will involve the Appleby Frodingham Railway - Scunthorpe's class 144 Pacer unit 144017 to return to group to the railtour platform.
The tour is planned to finish at 4pm, however the tour may overrun due to operational reasons.
Members will have a guided tour of the Societies engine shed to see the officers saloon and other locomotives receiving attention.
The lounge car will be open for refreshments ranging from sandwiches, sausage rolls, cake, chocolate and hot and cold drinks. (Please let us know below if you wish to purchase refreshments from the lounge car below so that we can advise the AFRPS how many to cater for).
Toilets and the gift shop next to the engine shed will be open on the day.
We will be producing a special booklet for the event to be issued before the the tour starts to those that are attending. It will feature a map of the rail system of the steelworks and will include a menu for the lounge car as well as the locos, coaches and wagon numbers for those who wish to know what vehicles are on site.
Due to the space in the brake vans, this tour is limited to 36 members only.
All profits from this tour will be donated to the AFR-S to help maintain the locos and rolling stock they have in their collection.
